Our Houston team, led by Regional Supervisor Esther Torres and Property Manager Patrica Torres-Ortega, have done a phenomenal job in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, and our residents have seen that LumaCorp truly cares about living up to our mission statement to exceed their expectations. During the height of the rising waters, Patricia stayed on property to make sure she was available to assist, and Cliff Little and Lucy Perez worked tirelessly removing wet flooring, managing water damage, and reassuring residents that we were there for them. When power went out, they opened our offices so residents could charge phones, use the Internet, and contact loved ones. It was inspiring, and our residents were appropriately grateful. “Truly amazing place to live,” posted one resident on Tuesday. “They are doing a great job….during this difficult time,” said another. Here are some of the ways we and our industry associations are trying to make a difference, and how you can help.

  •  We are working with TAA and Yardi to compile a list of all available apartments throughout the state for residents of the FEMA-declared disaster counties who want or need to relocate from damaged homes, and we are offering free applications and $50 deposits at all of our communities to residents of Aransas, Bee, Brazoria, Calhoun, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Goliad, Harris, Jackson, Kleberg, Liberty, Matagorda, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Victoria, and Wharton counties. We are freezing rents for them at the rates effective at Harvey’s landfall on the 25th. We are also offering them MTM leases at the best rate offered, as we do not wish to profit from their uncertainty. If FEMA issues housing vouchers, we will accept them as well.
  • Local apartment associations are collecting goods for the residents of shelters throughout the area. Watch TAA.org for information on donation drives in your area. If you are an AAGD member, they are encouraging members to drop donations at The Dallas County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster drop off center at 15660 N. Dallas Parkway, Dallas, TX 75248 between 3 and 8pm daily. You are welcome to organize donation drives at your communities, as Courtyard has done. They most need the following:

    1. new underwear & socks (all sizes) 
2. non-perishable food 
3. new warm-ups for men, women, children, and infants 
4. toiletries/feminine hygiene products 
5. baby formula and baby wipes, bottles, diapers

  • For residents of El Dorado View and Pipers Cove, we are waiving late fees and will not be filing evictions in September on those who can’t get to work and are struggling to pay.
  • We have joined NAA, TAA, San Antonio AA, and AAGD in supporting the American Red Cross. Together we’ve already committed over $30,000 to disaster relief, and will match up to another $5,000 of your funds donated at We have joined NAA, TAA, San Antonio AA, and AAGD in supporting the American Red Cross. • If you know someone displaced by the storm, we are eager to hire them. We have up to $1,000 in relocation assistance available for new hires from the disaster area, and as you already know, we offer terrific housing benefits that could help them start their recovery in earnest.
